UK-based maker Pisces Printing has gone viral after sharing a video which demonstrates how he used a combination of 3D printing and vacuum forming to create what he calls “3D printed vacuum forming sheets”.
In the video, Pisces explains that he used his 3D printer to make a mould for a belt guard for his lathe, before creating a sheet of PETG large enough to fit the mould using his VacMaster vacuum sealer normally used for preserving food.
His aim was to show that 3D printing can be used to make more than just prototypes, and that whatever can be imagined can likely be made with enough effort.
He concludes the video by saying that while his attempt is by no means perfect, it is a promising proof of concept that could be further improved with more experimentation.
