blog post and YouTube video from Seth Forsberg shows how to build a Light Display inspired by the WarGames movie using just three LED matrix modules and a Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller, which together cost less than $50, thanks to cheap components and no need for a custom PCB.
However, the post notes that, as with many such projects, at the moment the display just shows gibberish, but that this is just a software issue and isn’t anything that couldn’t be easily resolved.
It can be used as an aesthetic focal point or backdrop for a gaming or movie room, or the software could be modified to display meaningful information, such as date and time, CPU usage or the weather.
The post also suggests that the same technique could be used to recreate the opening sequence from the Cherry Bomb comic strip.
