UK-based Hackaday member Abe has designed a compact, handheld computer based on the Raspberry Pi RP2040 processor.
To overcome the challenge of driving a display, which can chew up resources, he employed a PicoVision board from UK outfit Pimoroni, which comprises two RP2040 chips, one of which drives an HDMI port, while the second is free to run application software.
He connected a compact IR remote QWERTY keyboard typically used for smart TVs, to which he added an adapter PCB along with an I2C GPIO expander chip, thus providing a working input keyboard.
The handheld device runs Slime OS, a launcher supported by Python-written applications, and Abe is seeking helpers to expand its features.
