FOSDEM is a free, annual, two-day event which takes place in Brussels on the first weekend of February, aimed at those interested in open hardware and software development.
This year, it is reported that hardware took centre stage at the event, with many of the stands featuring hardware, even for software projects.
Among the hardware showcased was the Libre Space Foundation’s model of the Picobus V2 satellite launching system, MicroPython, Espruino, and TinyGo, as well as LoRa devices and wireless tech more generally.
There were also unexpected appearances, such as the MNT Reform laptop which runs the Genode operating system.
FOSDEM is organised by volunteers and receives sponsorship from a number of businesses, and all talks are published online after the event.
FOSDEM is recommended as an excellent event for anyone interested in open-source in Europe, especially hardware enthusiasts.
