The new Bus Pirate 5 multi-tool adds I2C sniffing, a feature that was available in its “classic” predecessors, by incorporating the licensed pico_i2c_sniffer fromJuan Schiavoni, writes Hackaday.
The sniffer works at up to 500kHz, outperforming its predecessor due to the RP2040’s PIO, and offers a useful tool for troubleshooting or reversing devices that use the I2C communications protocol.
Captures are handled by the terminal, making it simpler to use than a logic analyser.
As with the previous versions, the team behind the Bus Pirate 5 is constantly adding new features and updates, so it is worth checking the latest firmware.
It can be purchased on the Bus Pirate website or through Hackaday.
