A new script that enables brick layering for 3D prints has been launched, which strengthens outer walls by staggering the layers to interlock with each other like bricks, adding extra strength.
The script was created by Geek Detour and is compatible with Prusa, Orca and Bambu slicers, with more slicers planning to introduce brick layers soon.
While the script does break the cancelling object functionality on some printers and makes multi-material prints impossible, the benefits of stronger prints are felt to outweigh these drawbacks.
The technique is best suited to functional parts that do not require colour printing.
The script’s developer, geek detour, has released a video showcasing the new functionality, which covers the difficulty of implementing the script externally and expresses hope that it will eventually be easier to implement within the slicer itself.
