A hacker has created their own air mouse, which they use in mid-air rather than on a desk, using an MPU6050 gyroscope and accelerometer to track movements and an ESP32-C3 microcontroller to connect to their computer over Bluetooth.
The build includes a range of media control buttons and also features capacitive touch.
While the hacker notes the challenge of getting used to not having the mouse on a surface, they also comment on the satisfaction of building their own tools to interface with their machines.
Other innovative mouse and HID (human interface device) projects they have come across include a 3D mouse with 3D-printed flexures and PCB coils.
A $10 USB TV remote with an air mouse feature also works well and has the same gyroscopic technology.
