UK-based company E3D has launched a new printer bed probe that uses a piezoelectric washer to detect nozzle contact with the printer bed.
This type of probe is more accurate than some of the existing sensor options because it senses contact at the nozzle rather than at a bed-mounted probe.
This means that there is no calibration necessary and there is no need to worry about slipping or other errors between the bed and the print head.
The probe is available as a kit for universal fitting or already installed in an E3D heatsink for easy installation in E3D printer models.
The company is marketing the probe as a superior alternative to existing nozzle-based bed probes and claims it is compatible with almost all filament-based printers.
