Original Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) consoles have been found to be speeding up as they get older.
The discovery was made by the TASBot team, a group that forms part of the speedrunning community who noticed that the older the console, the faster it ran.
It is believed that the Audio Processing Unit in the SNES, which is supposed to run at 24.576 MHz with a sample rate of 32,000 Hz, is causing the issue as its ceramic resonator degrades over time, causing an increase in speed.
The discovery could cause issues for speed runners as the community adapts to the changing hardware standard.
