Matt Godoy has created an electric-powered pedal go-kart for his son using inexpensive and easy-to-obtain parts, along with an old hoverboard and lithium batteries, to create a “deathtrap”-renameable go-kart that can reach speeds of up to 15mph.
While the design is aimed at children, the inventor admits its range and speed make it a viable low-cost option for adults to complete their shopping, providing they live in a locale that allows them to be driven on pavements and roads.
Concerns about the long-term durability of the wood used and the potential hazards of electric motors to unsupervised children have been raised by comments on the Hackaday.com article publicising the invention.
