Engineers behind Casio’s credit card radio, which was one of the world’s first AM/FM portable radios, have taken it apart for closer inspection.
Techmoan removed the rechargeable battery-operated radio from service after it ceased to work properly, and began taking it apart to see what was happening beneath the surface.
The radio, which was only slightly larger than a credit card, featured a number of miniature components from Toshiba, including an AM/FM tuner system IC, an FM PLL MPX and a headphone amplifier.
While the teardown proved destructive, the team is expected to release a follow-up report showing the radio in full working order after it has been repaired.
