An Atari 2600 cartridge-based games console has been transformed by hacker Nick Bild into a rudimentary digital photo frame.
Due to thehardware limitations of the 1970s console, creating a photo frame from itis far from straightforward and requires the use of innovative solutions.
Bild replaced the ROM of the cartridge with a Raspberry Pi Pico, which both runs the necessary small Atari program and also feeds the data to be displayed in a pre-processed format.
The result is an very 8-bit image that can only display 64 by 84 pixels, but is nonetheless an impressive feat of hacking.
All the code is available on GitHub for those who wish to replicate the project.
