The AqMood environmental sensor, produced by Tobias Stanzel, features a range of LED lights that indicate air quality conditions, including particulate levels, VOCs and CO2 concentrations.
Each segment of the 3D-printed diffuser is capable of indicating a different condition.
There is also an optional LCD screen that displays an emoji that conveys the detected air quality, such as a smiley face, or a face with side eyes.
The device is fitted with a Xiao Seeed ESP32-S3 processor, and all the files and build instructions are freely available online.
Comparable environmental monitoring devices include IKEA’s AIRTRONSensor, which can be hacked to include a STEMMA QT connector and a customised PCB.
