Paul J R has built a mini reflow oven using a tiny table-top toaster oven sourced from Australian Kmart, an ESP32 board and a thermistor.
His design enables him to control the oven’s temperature very precisely using open-source software and a custom-made control board, with all the resources available on GitHub.
The oven gets hot enough to temper steel and could be used for heat-treating small tools or for a hobby knife maker.
Whilst this project uses an Australian version of Kmart, the original stores were US discount department stores, akin to Target but without food outlets.
One contributor to the discussion thread suggests that Australian Kmart stores (kmart) are so low quality these days that it could be translated as ‘anko’, a Japanese word for excrement.
