Discworld aficionado [iracigt] has brought the brilliantly frustrating ‘Vetinari’ clock to life by modifying a $5 off-the-shelf timepiece.
Instead of keeping continuous time, the clock modifies the time increments to infuriate those around it.
Despite this, over a longer period it keeps the correct time.
The clock was achieved using an RP2040 microcontroller, hidden inside the clock’s casing, which is programmed to tick at average one-second intervals, but with each interval varying in length.
The methodology behind the construction, as well as the electronic interface with the quartz clock movement, is detailed on [iracigt]‘s blog.
It is also inspired by a 2011 Hackaday article on the same theme.
