Retrocomputing blog Z2Z has published a dissection of MacPaint, the Apple drawing programme from the 1980s, which is credited with introducing features such as the delete function, saving documents and selecting these for editing which are now readily available on many drawing programmes.
It influenced many computer graphics programmes and according to Z2Z had a “beautifully organised” codebase.
The blog highlights key features such as colour cycling, proportional zoom and selecting swathes of an image for editing.
Z2Z also highlighted how the programme was tested using a software “monkey” which randomly clicked keys and menus to test the programme’s response.
