Soiboi’s Salamander robot is a complicated microfluidic robot that operates using 3D printed layers of microfluidic channels, or “squishy muscles”.
While Soiboi’s microfluidic robot is too complex for beginners, the idea of using 3D printed microfluidic channels for robots is becoming more accessible.
Advanced microfluidic robotics include Lego-like modular blocks and shrinky dinks.
These channels mimic organic movements, but to do so require a leash of tubes connecting the robot to its pressure sources, but Soiboi hopes to create a self-contained version in the future.
