Researchers at the Public University of Navarra have devised a touchable volumetric display, superseding earlier 3D models that are challenging to interact with.
The design includes six strips consisting of elastic material that bend when the display is touched, thereby sensing the touch without damaging the display, while also projecting 3D images.
Among the components used are elastic clothing straps as the screen material and modified subwoofers to drive the oscillation of the display.
While the development currently suffers from low resolution and other limitations, it has highlighted the potential for more practical applications using the technology in future.
