Binner is a free and open source project that allows for the maintenance of a user customisable database, which can be used, for example, to keep track of components and parts located in a workshop.
The project is still developing but already includes the ability to read labels via a barcode scanner, populate an inventory and retrieve the contents of a specific location.
There are plans to tie the project into a “smart bin” system to light up the location of the required component.
Other inventory organisation methods include the use of sequential labelling of drawers and the use of a spreadsheet for data organisation and retrieval, though this may become more difficult to manage as inventory increases.
It would be useful to have a tutorial explaining how to integrate the Binner database with KiCad.
