The GK is a recently released handheld gaming device, created by John Cronin and built around a cortex M7 processor which is typically found in STM32H7S7 series MCUs.
The M7 is clocked at 600Mhz and works in tandem with a 2D NeoChrom GPU, 128MB of hexaspi SDRAM, and a gyrometer to support WiFi connectivity and a colour touch screen.
The firmware is Cronin’s own creation, called gkOS, and allows games to be loaded from an internal SD card, whilst a USB-C port enables access to the contents of the SD card as well as recharging the Li-ion battery.
So far, the GK can run games such as Doom, Quake, and Command and Conquer, as well as emulators for a range of consoles, utilizing the Mednafen project to achieve a speed of over 20 FPS.
