A replica Enigma machine, used as an encryption method in history, has been built by Miro using modern technologies, with a few revisions to increase usability.
The first Enigma machine was created using custom PCBs for the lightboard and keyboards, however, an error stack-up occurred.
After using the machine, it was apparent that the pogo pins were impacting the surfaces on the wheels, so Miro undertook an extensive redesign to combat the issue.
The new machine included various methods to detect the wheel positioning, reducing wiring and improving reliability by removing the mechanical wear of the original design.
Miro has documented the project on his website, as well as creating an informative video.
