DIY hacker, Janne, from Fraktal modified a manual espresso machine adding a touchscreen and a custom PCB heating device with closed-loop temperature control, as well as the ability to connect an external scale for accurate pour measurements.
The Kickstarter-born Flair 58 is a minimalist manual espresso machine with no electronics and minimal moving parts, in its basic form.
To accommodate the two custom PCBs and the touchscreen, Janne modified the frame of the Flair 58.
All the hardware and software is available on the Fraktal website for anyone who would like to try and replicate the modification.
This isn’t the only coffee maker hack that has been done before, but it does add some much-needed features to the basic manual espresso machine.
Check out the project’s website for more information, and to see what other coffee-related hacks Janne has been up to.
