YouTuber [Ashtf] has created a modern take on the classic Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) using a mini-clamshell format with an ESP32-S3 at its core.
The device boasts two displays: a main eInk screen for slow-speed interaction and an i2c AMOLED screen for tasks demanding high refresh rates.
It also features a QWERTY keyboard, a capacitive slider, and a stylish clear resin clamshell to house it all.
The “operating system” includes several apps, such as a tasks app, a file wizard, and a text app, with plans to add a calendar, desktop sync, and Bluetooth keyboard compatibility in future iterations.
The project’s previous iteration is available on GitHub, and [Ashtf] has previously showcased other PDA projects on their channel.
The nostalgia for the rapid loading times of PDAs has sparked frustration at the slow performance of smartphones today, despite their enhanced features and functionality.
