An individual called Ronald has manufactured his own vinyl record lathe after being unable to source the necessary equipment to produce records.
It took him 14 months and the final product included two 50 W tweeters to drive the needle and better frequency response.
Ronald provides audio samples on his website and garage bands are now beating a path to his door.
This is not the only record cutter to feature in Hackaday, which also highlights the possibility of copying rather than cutting records and using acetate sheets to create a record for a one-off event.
It also mentions the phenomenon of Soviet records cut into x-ray film, which were used because there wasn’t enough material for legitimate cutting purposes.
