Drumboy and Synthgirl are compact electronic instruments, a drum machine and a synthesiser launched on Kickstarter by Randomwaves.
They have been released as open source in the entirety under the GPLv3 license on GitHub, containing everything needed to build a pair of 24-bit synthesisers based on STM32 microcontrollers.
Buying them from Randomwaves is likely to be easier than building them, but the availability of the source code could lead to interesting new features and extensions from the community of owners.
It will also be interesting to see whether clones appear on sites like AliExpress, as has happened with other open-source projects; cheaper projects suffer more from clones, but this higher-end product may be safer.
