Google researchers are using AI in an attempt to create a system that would allow humans to effectively communicate with dolphins.
The project, called DolphinGemma, is based on an LLM (large language model) that uses decades worth of recorded dolphin sounds from the Wild Dolphin Project, with the intention of using these intelligent creatures for more effective communication.
The system is designed to run on Google Pixel phones, which combine the latest AI processing technology in a more portable format that’s more practical for use in the field than a mainframe.
While the project is still in its early stages, it offers an insight into how AI can help humans better understand other species, and could potentially be used to aid communication with other intelligent species, such as aliens.
