Creating An Electronic Board For Catan-Compatible Shenanigans
1 min read
Summary
A self-described “board game engineer”, Sean Boyce, has designed a multifunctional electronic strategy board game called Calculus, which can also be used to play the popular game Settlers of Catan.
Calculus is centred on corporate competition to mine asteroids, and is played on a board comprising several PCBs.
A Xiao RP2040 microcontroller board in the centre of the game controls multiple seven-segment displays and RGB LEDs to help players track their progress.
It is also designed to be used to play Settlers of Catan by rearranging some of the boards and adding a few extra pieces.
Boyce has also developed a more affordable and portable version of the game for travel.
