PC gamers with large, heavy graphics cards are finding that the PCIe slots they fit into are not always strong enough to handle the weight, with some cards becoming damaged or tearing themselves away from the motherboard.
Several manufacturers are attempting to counter the issue by introducing accelerometers that alert gamers when the sag angle of a card exceeds a certain limit, enabling them to take action before catastrophe strikes.
Case manufacturers are also attempting to develop products that offer additional support for heavy cards, but some industry experts believe the responsibility lies with the card manufacturers to ensure their products are designed to fit within the standardised form factors of available cases.
Horizontal cases or vertical mount kits are also recommended for overweight graphics cards.
