The PicoW from Raspberry Pi is a microcontroller proving very popular with coders, and now it is being used in an intriguing project to create a MIDI looper.
The device interfaces with a synthesiser via MIDI-BLE, and the button provided on the Pico W is used to select between four tracks, set the tempo, and input notes on the selected track.
Users can then pound out a rhythm on the selected track, which will repeat indefinitely, or until the button is pressed again to change it.
The simplicity of the project, which just uses the PicoW, could be extended with a speaker to create a tiny self-contained synth, or with more buttons.
