As 3D printing technology develops a new breed of traditional machinery is being given a new lease of life not dissimilar to the recent resurgence of vinyl records.
A maker going by the name of Toast on YouTube has created a working 3D printed typewriter and unlike traditional typewriters which are riddled with springs and metal mechanisms for ink transfer, this one uses carbon paper to leave impressions on the page.
The biggest departure from convention however, is the key layout on the device, which instead of a traditional keyboard, features a series of wheels that the user selects each letter from before pressing the “key” and hitting the page.
After printing the majority of the machine from PLA filament, the final product weighs in at a rather hefty 6.6kg.
