The Commodore 64 computer, a much-loved machine from the 1980s, has been updated to run a simple large language model (LLM), requiring the addition of 2MB of extra RAM.
The model in question, Llama 2, which has been described as “the 260 K tinystories model”, is a more limited, rudimentary example of an LLM, comparable to “prompting a 3-year-old child with the beginning of a story”.
The update comes thanks to the work of programmer [ytm], who ported the Llama 2 model to the Commodore 64, arguably the most popular computer of the 1980s.
This is just the latest in a series of Commodore 64 hacks and updates that have kept the machine relevant to modern technology.
