Pong, the iconic 1970s video game, has been given a new lease of life by Parth Parikh, with the addition of sportscaster-style commentary during gameplay.
Using an LLM, Parikh created XPong, which features annotated gameplay from the 1960s to the 1990s, with announcements of significant game events.
The game features multiple AI players, two announcers, and a total of 60 different events across 15 years of tournaments.
Commentaries pause to announce significant events and then pick up where they left off afterwards.
While users cannot play the game, Parikh’s creation demonstrates the potential for LLM use in gaming.
Those who would like to see a human version of the game where two players can go head-to-head in XPong are encouraged to submit their interest and any code they write as a result.
