Wrongdog Recons has created a project on GitHub which emulates a 1990s-era cable TV system and even includes a physical cable box made with a Raspberry Pi.
The system enables users to organise their own video content into channels, intersperse this with commercials and scheduling based on time of day or even year, and create a programme guide to see what’s on.
It can be used to play retro commercials with the content, or even simulate a pay-to-watch platform with a coin slot.
An extension could even include local weather channels or other niche content.
