Blogger Dave Jones of EEVBlog praises the innovative spirit of hobbyist circuit-builder “Happy Little Diodes” for creating a wireless logic analyzer that can interface with the ZX Spectrum personal computer, and praises the broader potential of using an open-source logic analyzer design by Eldrgusman for decoding any processor.
Jones acknowledges that most people wouldn’t have a use case for a logic analyzer customized for the ZX Spectrum, but argues that the Happiness Little Diodes project inspires DIY spirit and demonstrates that with open-source software and hardware tools, time investment is all that stands between a user and the tools they need for unconventional or emerging use cases.
The open-source nature of the project also means that others can build on the work, refining and repurposing it, just as Happy Little Diodes used Eldrgusman’s design as the basis for their own.
Jones laments that such tools were not available when he was starting out in electronics, but is heartened by the opportunities open to newcomers today.
