Seth’s current bicycle helmet is potentially unsafe as it only protects a small part of his head and may not trigger in time, so he decided to make his own design using an airbag.
Seth chose the Hövding airbag helmet, which protects a larger area of the head and also offers neck bracing, but it is a single-use item that cannot be sold in the US.
Unfortunately, the product had several issues, including reports of it failing to deploy and some units deploying when there had been no crash.
The Hövding eventually filed for bankruptcy, with the root cause of its failure revealed to be a firmware bug as a result of the growing complexity of the project.
