YouTuber Craig Lindley modified a Home Depot LED spiral lamp so that, rather than emitting a soothing white light, it selects any colour from the RGB gamut, creating a charming rainbow lamp that reacts to both motion and time.
Lindley started by replacing the lamp’s white LED strips with addressable WS2812B LEDs, before installing a 10 amp 5 volt power supply and adding a Wemos D1 Mini microcontroller and an HC-SR04 infrared motion sensor.
Further customised with the popular FastLED library, the lamp displays a range of colourful patterns when activated.
