Extracting Forensic Evidence from Smartwatch Data: A CID Hackathon Experience
1 min read
Summary
At a recent CID Hackathon, a team embarked on a project to look at how data extracted from smartwatches could be used for forensic analysis.
The team extracted and analysed data including GPS movements, call logs and payment transactions, as well as multimedia evidence such as photos and voice recordings.
They used a Smart Development Bridge to access system files on the smartwatch, and host the retrieved data on a secure web server.
The data was then presented in a visually interactive dashboard using React.js and D3.js for analysis.
The team picked up a runner-up award at the hackathon, and concluded that wearables are becoming critical digital evidence sources.
