Cyber Forensic Expert in 2,000+ Cases Faces FBI Probe

Summary
Former US Secret Service investigator Mark Lanterman has testified as a cybersecurity and computer forensics ‘expert’ in more than 2,000 trials.
Lanterman’s profile and history were removed from the Computer Forensic Services (CFS) website last month, and the FBI is now investigating allegations about his credentials.
Sean Harrington, a forensics examiner based in Prescott, Wisconsin, claims that Lanterman lied under oath, including about attaining a degree in computer science from Upsala College (since closed) and a further qualification in cybersecurity from Harvard.
His profile has also been removed from the CFS website and the FBI is investigating.
Lanterman admitted he has no proof of attending Upsala College and his cybersecurity qualification from Harvard was an eight-week online course.
Lanterman has withdrawn from a case defended by law firm Perkins Coie, with Mr Rasch, a former federal cybercrime prosecutor, saying the defendants in any cases which relied on Lanterman’s testimony could now have grounds for an appeal.
Lanterman sent a message to withdraw from the case, but not before stating that he is “done dealing with the likes of individuals like Sean Harrington”.
