Summary
Global education software platform PowerSchool, which serves over 60 million students, suffered a data breach at the end of December 2024.
The company has now started to notify the individuals that have been affected by the breach, including students, teachers and parents, but is yet to reveal the total number of victims or any details about the cause of the breach.
The notification to those affected includes an offer of free identity theft protection services and two years of credit monitoring for adults.
The breach has been confirmed by the hacker themselves who claimed that the personal data of over 62 million students and teachers was stolen.
PowerSchool has also notified the US and Canadian regulators but will need to issue a further update to its international customers at a later date.
