Apple releases security updates to block iPhone passcode hacking tools, again

Summary
Apple has released security updates for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and macOS to close a zero-day vulnerability that enables attackers to access data on a locked iPhone.
The issue centres on USB Restricted Mode, which was introduced in 2018 to stop hackers from targeting the device’s charging port to bypass password protections.
“Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals,” the company said in a statement.
This is the latest in a series of zero-days revealed recently, affecting Microsoft, iOS, Android and Windows applications.
These include a Windows flaw that enables hackers to execute malicious code on fully-patched machines, and a zero-day in iOS that lets malicious messages disable iCloud telephones.
