Summary
Lithuanian advertising company Eskimi has been named as the source of location data that tracked US military and intelligence personnel abroad.
The data was allegedly sold by Florida-based firm Datastream Group to any interested parties.
In response, Datastream said the data was “legitimately” sourced, but denied selling it on.
Data protection authorities in Lithuania have been alerted to the alleged data breach and may investigate.
It was reported in December that Datastream had been offering access to location data from devices believed to belong to American military and intelligence staff.
Used in digital advertising, such data was allegedly collected via kits embedded in mobile apps and sold on to other companies.
