Top US Election Security Watchdog Forced to Stop Election Security Work
1 min read
Summary
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has frozen election security work and is reviewing everything it has done to help state and local officials secure elections since being established in 2017.
CISA has also halted funding for activities at the Elections Infrastructure Information Sharing & Analysis Center, a group funded by the Department of Homeland Security.
The agency will pause all election security activities until the review is completed on 6 March, and has placed staff initially identified to be associated with the work on administrative leave.
CISA will submit a report to the White House addressing how it intends to streamline its election security services for state and local governments.
It is unclear if White House officials or DHS Secretary Kristi Noem ordered Bean to launch the review.
