Summary
Audio company Audio-Technica has unveiled its first floating turntable, the Hotaru, at Milan Design Week, which combines a colour-changing light show with state-of-the-art playback accuracy.
The turntable’s upper section, including the tonearm and DC motor, levitates using magnets, while the acrylic body hides a belt drive system and internal lighting that offers 20 different colour palettes and two gradient modes, as well as a setting that reacts to the beat of the music.
Only 1,000 of the $9,999 units are to be made, with orders open until 31 May 2025.
Shipping will not commence until October of the same year.
The sturdy aluminium base contains a integrated speaker system with two full-range speakers and two tweeters, along with ports for external connections.
