Summary
Japanese tech firm Buffalo has announced a limited edition hard drive to celebrate its parent company’s 50th anniversary.
Named the Buffalo Skeleton Hard Disk, the device has a see-through window offering a view of its internal mechanics, and is a tribute to a Melco record player that was released in 1978.
Only 50 of the drives are being made, and they will go on sale in June via a lottery system.
Each one contains a 4TB drive and weighs approximately 3.3 pounds, with a gold and anodised black finish.
Priced at around $695, the hard drive is aimed at collectors and enthusiasts, and is noticeably larger than a standard laptop hard drive.
Buffalo also offers software called SeekWizard, which allows users to make the read arm move in different patterns.
