Amazon’s killing a feature that let you download and backup Kindle books

Summary
Amazon is planning to remove the option to download purchased books to a computer and then transfer them to a Kindle via USB from 26 February 2025.
The move will likely affect many Kindle users, who will only be able to download books directly to their e-reader via Wi-Fi from this date.
While Wi-Fi is typically the easier and more common way of getting new books onto a Kindle, the store option allows users to create backups and convert books to other formats to use on other e-readers.
It also enables owners of older Kindles to access new purchases, as these models do not have Wi-Fi.
Some are viewing the change as another sign that consumers don’t really own digital content, and it could result in titles being removed remotely by the retailer.
