Humane, the company founded by ex-Apple designers that created the AI pin, is shutting down and selling its technology to HP for a reported 116m,whichisjustafractionofthe230m the startup had raised since being founded in 2018.
HP has acquired some of the AI pin technology, but the device’s long-suffering purchasers will not be offered a refund and will be unable to make use of the product.
The AI pin, which sold for 699(plusa24 a month subscription fee) was a gorgeously designed gadget with an underwhelming feature set that offered sporadic performance and had numerous critical failures.
It also soldiered on despite panicked warnings from early adopters who described the device as “unreliable and meltdown-prone” and came with a mandatory charge case recall due to overheating risks.
Its founders are now working on AI for HP’s printers and conference rooms.
