Google is rolling out a fix for broken Chromecasts
1 min read
Summary
An “untrusted device” error on some second-generation Chromecasts and Chromecast Audios prevented devices being used for casting.
The issue seems to have begun on 6 November, and at first Google said resetting the device was the only solution, but that didn’t prove effective.
Now Google has posted that “we have started to roll out a fix”, which will be completed in the next few days, with the device needing to be connected to receive the update.
However, for those that tried a factory reset, Google says it’s working on resolving this issue, and has shared steps via Reddit that users can try as a workaround.
Google hasn’t confirmed what caused the issue, one user speculates it was due to an expired certificate baked into the device.
