The Internet is (once again) awash with IoT botnets delivering record DDoSes

Security researchers have issued multiple reports highlighting the increasing scale of DDoS attacks driven by IoT devices since the start of the year.
One report found a new record for DDoS volumes, with a 5.6TB per second attack driven by a variant of the Mirai malware that had infected 13,000 IoT devices.
Another study by security company Qualys revealed a “large-scale, ongoing operation” dubbed the Murdoc Botnet, which has so far primarily targeted AVTECH cameras and Huawei HG532 routers, with the number of compromised devices thought to have increased from 1,300 to 1,500 in the last few hours.
A third report noted an IoT botnet driven by Mirai and Bashlite that has delivered DDoS attacks since the end of last year, while security firm Infoblox revealed a botnet of 13,000 devices, mostly MikroTik routers that are being used to send out malicious spam emails.
