Summary
Intel has appointed Lip-Bu Tan as its new chief executive, effective from March 18, replacing the interim co-CEOs David Zinsner and Michelle Johnston Holthaus.
Tan, a former member of the Intel board from 2022 to 2024, has also served on the boards of several other tech firms, including Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) and Cadence Design Systems.
He takes over from Pat Gelsinger, who was ousted as CEO on December 2 after struggles with losses, layoffs and cancelled projects.
Gelsinger’s vision to turn Intel into a foundry company that manufactured chips for third-party designers had met resistance and led to his departure.
Zinsner will remain with the company as executive vice president and CFO, while Holthaus will remain CEO of the Intel Products Group.
