Summary
To sell or give away an old Android device it is important to back up your data
This can be done through copying and pasting it to a Windows, Mac or Linux computer – this is a free, offline method, and should not take too long
For a quicker, more efficient transfer, a high speed USB-C cable or an On-the-go (OTG) cable can be used
Alternatively Google backup can be used to store and access your data on the cloud via a Google account – photos and videos will be stored here if you have enabled backup and these can be accessed on other apps under the Google account
Other third-party backup solutions include Clone Phone – Phone Switch, Swift Backup and Titanium Backup – some of these are paid solutions
After a backup has been made, it is vital to wipe all data from the device to avoid it falling into the wrong hands and to protect your privacy
This can be done through encrypting the data, logging out of all accounts and unlinking any Bluetooth pairings from the device
Finally, perform a factory reset – but remember to remove the SIM cards and any eSIM profiles from the device
